Postseason Accolades Continue To Roll in For UB Women's Soccer Standouts
Four Players Honored By The Conference Commissioner’s Association And The ECAC
Bridgeport, Conn.-The postseason honors continue to roll in for the two-time defending NCAA Division II Women's Soccer East Regional Champions, the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, as on Wednesday, several UB players received Conference Commissioner's Association (CCA) All-America honors and ECAC Division II Women's Soccer All-Star accolades.
Graduate student Idoia Agirre (Legazpi, Spain) earned a spot on the First Team CCA All-America group as a forward and received the ECAC Division II Offensive Player of the Year Award. Agirre enjoyed a spectacular campaign, leading the team in goals (25), points (55) and game-winners (8). Her production in front of goal helped the Purple Knights to an 18-4 overall record in 2016. Idoia was also named to the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) First Team All-East Region prior to her All-America selection.
Senior Nicola Worthington (Chorley, England) was selected to the Third Team CAA All-America squad and was named ECAC Division II Defensive Player of the Year. In 2016, Worthington scored six goals and a team-high 15 assists for 27 points for the Purple Knights. She earned her second consecutive East Coast Conference (ECC) Defensive Player of the Year award and was named First Team All-Conference for the fourth straight season. The midfielder also helped the Purple Knights capture their second consecutive National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II East Regional title with a 2-1 victory over Adelphi University. For her efforts on and off the field, Worthington received NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Second Team National Academic All-America honors, becoming the third player in program history to do so.
Senior Flo Gamby (Goffs Oak, England) also was chosen Third Team CAA All-America squad as defender and garnered a spot on the First Team 2016 ECAC Division II Women's Soccer All-Stars. Gamby helped anchored a defense that allowed on 19 goals all season, and on offense, she had seven goals and four assists for 18 points, earning All-Conference and All-Region recognition.
Senior Shannon Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.) rounded out Wednesday's UB award winners claiming a spot on ECAC Division II Women's Soccer All-Stars First Team. Colligan finished second on the Purple Knights in scoring in 2016 scoring 14 goals and adding six assists for a total of 34 points.
