Bridgeport Women's Soccer Standout Nicola Worthington Earns Second Team National CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors
Senior Becomes Third Player In Program History To Earn National Academic All-America Recognition
Austin, Texas-University of Bridgeport women's soccer standout, senior Nicola Worthington (Chorley, England) became the third player in program history to national CoSIDA Academic All-America honors on Monday, as she was named an NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Second Team National Academic All-America for her excellence in the classroom and strong performance on the pitch. Worthington, who has 3.61 grade point average as Health Sciences major at UB, joins Julia Hansson, who was a First Team Academic All-America selection in 2013 and a Second Team pick in 2012, plus Tabea Rauschenberger, a Second Team selection in 2014, as national Academic All-Americas from the University of Bridgeport soccer program.
In 2016, Worthington closed out her steal Bridgeport with six goals and a team-high 15 assists for 27 points. She earned her second consecutive East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year nod and was named First Team All-Conference for the fourth straight season. Nic also helped the Purple Knights capture their second consecutive NCAA Division II East Regional title on Friday with a 2-1 victory over Adelphi University.
To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable). In baseball and softball, pitchers must have at least 10.0 innings pitched. Athletes who have not participated in at least 50 percent of their team's contests are not eligible.
