Purple Knights Well Represented On 2015 All-East Coast Conference Women's Soccer Teams
UB Takes Home Four Of Five Major ECC Postseason Awards
Junior midfielder Nicola Worthington (Chorley, England) was selected as the ECC's Defensive Player of the Year. Freshman Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) was named the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year, and classmate Jess Laszlo (Stamford, Conn.) earned 2015 ECC Rookie of the Year honors.
Bridgeport head coach Magnus Nilerud was selected as the 2015 ECC Coach of the Year by his peers.
Worthington, the Most Outstanding Player in this weekend's EC Championship Tournament, helped direct a Bridgeport defense that has allowed only seven goals and notched 15 shutouts in 20 matches heading into the 2015 NCAA Division II Championship Tournament.
Wendelius has minuscule 0.38 goals against average so far this season, and she has recorded a total of 10 solo clean sheets and shared two other shutouts.
Laszlo has burst onto the scene this season with a team high 20 goals and 46 points in her first year of collegiate women's soccer.
Joining Laszlo, Worthington and Wendelius on the First Team All-East Coast Conference team are midfielder Flo Gamby (Sr., Goffs Oak, England) and junior defender Julia Weidenmark (Varnamo, Sweden).
Earning Second Team All-ECC honors from UB are junior Amanda Moura (F., Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Hanne Neby (M, Furnes, Norway).
The Purple Knights also placed a pair of players on the Third-Team All-East Coast Conference group in junior, defender Stephanie Vahos (Shelton, Conn.) and sophomore, midfielder Ariana Weingrad (Hicksville, N.Y.).
