Bridgeport, Conn-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team scored three goals in the second half to notch a 3-0 East Coast Conference win over the visiting NYIT Bears on Saturday afternoon in the team's 2015 home regular season finale. The win raises Bridgeport's season record to 13-1-0, and the Purple Knights remain unbeaten in conference play at 5-0-0. The victory also gives the Purple Knights a perfect 9-0-0 mark at Knights Field in 2015. Bridgeport has not lost a regular season home match over the past five seasons. UB has also now won eight matches in a row. NYIT slips to 5-7-1 overall, and the Bears are now 0-5-0 in the ECC.
Bridgeport dominated the match outshooting NYIT, 27-3, on the day, but the Purple Knights could not find the back of the net until freshman Jess Laszlo (Stamford, Conn.) scored her first of two goals in the match when she blistered home a long shot at the 66:07 mark. Laszlo would strike again 11:10 later when she found the back of the net off an assist from senior Flo Gamby (Goffs Oaks, England). Jess leads UB in scoring so far this season with 14 goals, nine of which have come in the last five matches.
Gamby would then finish the scoring on the day at the 80:48 mark when she netted her third goal of the 2015 season off assist from junior Nicola Worthington (Cholley, England) and senior Gabby Reis (West Haven, Conn.), as Reis played a quick short corner kick to Worthington who crossed the ball to Gamby whose header beat NYIT keeper Brianna Bolletteri.
Bridgeport freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made two saves to record her sixth solo shutout of the year. As a team, Bridgeport has posted 11 clean sheets in its 13 victories.
