Bridgeport, Conn.-Three different players scored goals on the night, as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team picked up a 3-1 home, non-conference win over the visiting Nyack College Warriors on Wednesday. With the victory, UB is now 8-2-1 Nyack slips to 2-12-0 with the loss.
Sophomore Tabea Rauschenberger (Mühlacker, Germany) opened the scoring in the match with only 2:37 to play in the first half when she netted a goal off a free kick near midfield that bounced over the head of Nyack goalkeeper Madeline Barbarino and into the net for her second tally of 2014.
The Purple Knights would score their second goal just 3:48 into the second half when freshman Sophie Sorkvist (Orebro, Sweden) also put home her second goal of the season when she slammed in a rebound off a shot by Flo Gamby (Jr., Goffs Oaks, England) that eluded the Nyack keeper.
Senior Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) scored UB's final goal on Wednesday when she finished a beautiful through ball from freshman Carolina Rico (North Bergen, N.J.) at the 56:01 mark of action for her team-leading fourth goal of the year.
The Warriors would spoil Bridgeport goalkeeper's Kaitlin Occhipinti's (Fr., Islip, N.Y.) bid for her sixth solo shutout of the year when Diana Hernandez scored off a free kick with just over 23 minutes to play. Occhipinti (7-2-0 on the season) had one save on the night stopping a Nyack breakaway bid.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's soccer team opens a three-match road trip with a key East Coast Conference contest at Dowling on Saturday, October 18 at 3:00 pm.
