Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team held a 1-0 at halftime, but the host LIU Post Pioneers rebounded with two second half tallies to grab a hard-fought, 2-1, East Coast Conference victory over the Purple Knights on Long Island on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, UB is now 7-2-1 overall and 3-2-0 in conference. After a season-opening loss, LIU Post has now won 10 matches in a row, as the Pioneers are 10-1-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the ECC.
Sophomore Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa.) gave the Purple Knights a 1-0 lead when she headed home her second goal of 2014 with 4:49 to play in the first half.
The Pioneers would then come back to score two goals just eight minutes apart in the second half finding the back of net in the 54th and 62nd minutes.
Bridgeport outshot LIU Post, 17-12 on the afternoon, but sophomore goalkeeper Hreffie Agnarsdottir made five saves to help LIUP grab to victory despite putting only two shots on the UB goal.
The Bridgeport women's soccer team will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday night. October 15th when the Purple Knights return to Knights Field for a non-conference tilt versus Nyack College. Action gets underway in the Park City at 6:00 p.m.
