UB Women's Soccer Edges Nyack, 3-2, For Tenth Straight Victory
Purple Knights Now 10-1-0 On The Season
Orangeburg, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team picked up its tenth consecutive victory with a 3-2 non-conference road win over the Nyack College Warriors on Tuesday afternoon. UB is now 10-1-0 overall, and Nyack is now 5-5-1. Tuesday's win marks the thirteenth consecutive year that the Bridgeport women's soccer program has won at least 10 matches in a season.
The Purple Knights got on the scoreboard first at the 12:49 mark when sophomore Gabby Reis (West Haven, Conn.) netted her second goal of 2013 when she put home a feed from junior Gillian Munro (Manchester, England).
The match would head into halftime with UB in front 1-0, but the Warriors would level things at 1-1 just over seven minutes into the second half. Bridgeport would retake the lead at 2-1 when junior Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) headed home a corner kick form freshman Tabea Rauschenberger (Mühlacker, Germany) at the 63:31 mark. Just under 10 minutes later, Puddefoot would score what proved to be the game-winning goal when she converted a penalty kick for her eighth goal of the year.
Nyack would narrow the deficit to 3-2 with just over eight minutes to play on penalty of their own, but Bridgeport's defense would not allow another goal as the Purple Knights escaped with the win.
The Purple Knights dominated the run of play on the day oushooting Nyack, 23-3.
The Bridgeport women's soccer team is back in action on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. when the team hosts LIU Post in a key East Coast Conference matchup.
