Women's Soccer Blanks Roberts Wesleyan, 2-0
Purple Knights Pick Up Important ECC Win As Regular Season Enters Final Two Weeks Of Action
Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Asia Pulse (New Haven, Conn.) scored a first half goal and freshman Gabby Reis (West Haven, Conn.) hit the back of the net on a penalty kick in the second half to help the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team to an important 2-0 home ECC win over conference newcomer, the Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks on Sunday afternoon. The victory ups UB's overall record 7-4-2, and the Purple Knights are now 5-1-0 in the East Coast Conference. The Redhawks are now 9-7-0 overall and 3-4-0 in conference play.
Pulse opened the scoring in the match at the 20:23 mark of play when she finished a beautiful combination play with graduate student Julia Colley (Harlow, England) about halfway in the RWC penalty area for her second goal of the season.
Reis' PK goal gave the Purple Knights an important insurance tally with just over 20 minutes to play after a Roberts Wesleyan's foul by Kelley Zorn in the penalty area that drew a yellow card.
Goalkeepers Julia Hansson (Jr., Tocksfors, Sweden) and freshman Jackie Fonseca (West Harrison, N.Y.) shared the clean sheet for Bridgeport. Hansson made three saves for the winners, as UB notched its fourth shutout of the season.
The UB women's soccer team is back in action at home on Wednesday afternoon (October 17) when they host Post University in a non-conference tilt. Action gets underway at Knights Field at 4:00 p.m.
