Purple Knights Battle Stonehill To 1-1 Tie In Women's Soccer
UB Returns Home On Sunday For Important ECC Clash With Roberts Wesleyan
Easton, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team traveled to Stonehill College on Thursday afternoon, and the Purple Knights battled the Skyhawks to a 1-1 double-overtime tie. With the draw, UB is now 6-4-2 overall in 2012. Stonehill's overall record now stands at
5-3-4.
Bridgeport got on the board first on Thursday when a cross by senior Rachel O'Sullivan (Trumbull, Conn.) was put in the net by a Stonehill player for own goal against the Skyhawks just over eight minutes into play on the day.
Stonehill would tie things up at 1-1 and score what proved to be the final tally of the afternoon when Sara Nagle headed home a corner kick at the 16:43 mark.
The Skyhawks outshot the Purple Knights, 14-5, in the match, but junior goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) made three saves to preserve the deadlock. Stonehill also held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks on the day.
The Bridgeport women's soccer team is back in action at home on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 14) when the Purple Knights host ECC newcomer Roberts Wesleyan College. Kick-off for the important ECC tilt is set for 3:00 p.m. at Knights Field.
