Women's Soccer Sweeps Major 2011 East Coast Conference Awards
Total of Seven Players Plus Head Coach Magnus Nilerud Honored For Excellence By The League
Central Islip, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team, the 2011 East Coast Conference regular season champions and the number one ranked team at the NCAA Division II level for the last six weeks, has swept the major 2011 East Coast Conference awards that were announced this weekend.
Senior forward Kasey Kenny (Staten Island, N.Y.) has been named the ECC Offensive Player of the Year, senior defender Marie Pettersson (Amal, Sweden) has been selected as the ECC Defensive Player of the Year, sophomore Julia Hansson (Tockfors, Sweden) has been named ECC Goalkeeper of the Year, freshman defender Gillian Munro (Manchester, England) has been tabbed the ECC Rookie of the Year, and for the second time in the last three season, UB head coach Magnus Nilerud has been named East Coast Conference Coach of the Year by his peers.
In total, seven UB players earned 2011 All-East Coast Conference Women's Soccer honors, plus head coach Nilerud was named ECC Coach of the Year.
Earning spots on the All-ECC First Team are Kasey Kenny, Marie Pettersson, Julia Hansson and senior midfielder Katie Stanley (Oxford, England).
Selected to places on the All-ECC Second Team are Gillian Munro, junior forward Julia Colley (Harlow, England) and senior midfielder Danielle Weir (Bo'ness Scotland).
The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team is currently 16-0-1 on the season, and the Purple Knights will hear about their NCAA Division II National Tournament status on Monday evening at approximately 7:30 p.m. The 2011 NCAA Division II National Championship Tournaments will been announced on www.ncaa.com starting at 7:00 p.m. Monday evening, November 7 with the men's field followed by the announcement of the 48-team women's field.
