Katie Stanley Named To First Team Capital One Academic All-District Women's Soccer Squad
Marie Pettersson Earns Second Team All-District Academic Honors
Bridgeport, Conn.-University of Bridgeport women's soccer midfielder, senior Katie Stanley (Oxford, England) has been selected as a member of the First Team Capital One Academic All-District Women's Soccer Squad (District One) as selected by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors of America). Stanley, who is third on the Purple Knights in scoring with 20 points on seven goals and six assists so far in 2011, is a Psychology major with a 3.43 grade point average. She now moves onto the national ballot with members of the First Team All-District teams from the nation's eight geographic regions.
Bridgeport defender, senior Marie Pettersson (Amal, Sweden) was named to the Second Team Capital One Academic All-District Women's Soccer Squad (District One). Pettersson has a 3.43 grade point average as a Business Administration major.
To be nominated for a Capital One Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable). In baseball and softball, pitchers must have at least 10.0 innings pitched. Athletes who have not participated in at least 50 percent of their team's contests are not eligible. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. In the cases of transfers, graduate students and two-year college graduates, the student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible. Nominees in graduate school must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better both as an undergrad and in grad school.
The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team is currently ranked number one in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and the Purple Knights have a 16-0-1 overall record.
