Women's Soccer Completes Perfect Regular Season With 3-1 Win Over Queens (N.Y.)
Purple Knights Head Into ECC Tourney At 16-0-0
Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Kasey Kenny (Staten Island, N.Y.) and junior Julia Colley (Harlow, England) each scored their tenth goals of the season off assist from senior Katie Stanley (Oxford, England) in the first half to help the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team post a 3-1 East Coast Conference win over the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Sunday afternoon. The victory completes a 2011 perfect regular season for the Purple Knights who head into next week's ECC Championship Tournament with a overall 16-0-0 record and a 7-0- conference mark. Queens ends its 2011 season at 7-7-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the ECC.
Kenny scored the match's first goal at the 10:27 mark of the first half, and Colley tallied what would prove to be the game-winning score at the 30:50 mark when she gave UB a 2-1 lead after Queen's Janine Guerra tied things at 1-1 in the 23rd minute.
Bridgeport freshman Jenny Hwang (Manchester, Conn.) completed the scoring in the match with her first goal of the season in the 59th minute.
UB goalkeeper Julia Hansson (So., Tocksfors, Sweden) made seven saves to notch her sixteenth win of the year.
Bridgeport will now host the number four seeded team, Molloy College, on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. in one East Coast Conference Championship Tournament semifinal.
