Women's Soccer Opens ECC Play With 2-0 Win At Mercy
Julia Colley And Kasey Kenny Net First Half Goals For UB
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-Seniors Julia Colley (Harlow, England) and Kasey Kenny (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored first half goals as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team, ranked number seven by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America this week, opened East Coast Conference play on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 road win over the Mercy College Mavericks. UB is now 5-0-0 on the year and 1-0-0 in the ECC. Mercy falls to 1-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
Colley opened the scoring with her third goal of 2011 off an assist from Kenny at the 10:35 mark.
Kenny then netted her team-high fifth goal of the season off an assist from freshman Anna Eriksson (Mariehamm, Finland) just 3:22 before the half.
Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) made five saves to record her third shutout of the season.
Bridgeport is back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Bloomsburg (Pa.) University. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
