Indianapolis, Ind. –The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team, under the direction of twelfth-year head coach Magnus Nilerud, has earned its fourth straight trip to the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Tournament with an at-large bid to the 48-team 2010 championship. The Purple Knights will take on the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University on Friday November 12th in Albany, N.Y. in a First Round NCAA East Regional match. Game time is 1:00 p.m. Friday's winner will move on to face the nation's number one ranked team and host of the First and Second Round East Regional matches, College of St. Rose Golden Knights. Game time on Sunday is 12 noon.
After making the school first-ever NCAA Championship appearance in 2007, Bridgeport advanced to the Round of 16 in 2009 posting wins over Merrimack (1-0) and C.W. Post (1-0), before falling to the College of St. Rose, 3-1. Last season, UB served as an NCAA host for the first time in the program's history and received a first round bye before falling 4-1 to Franklin Pierce, this year's first round opponent, 4-1, in the second round.
Bridgeport heads into this year's NCAA Tournament with a 13-3-2 overall record and is the fifth seed in the East Region.
Franklin Pierce enters the 2010 NCAA Tournament with a 14-5-1 overall mark and is the fourth seed.
The College of St. Rose is 21-0-0 so far in 2010 and is the region's top seed.
The other side of the East Region bracket will be hosted East Coast Conference champion, C.W. Post University, the number two seed. The Pioneers are 13-1-4 so far in 2010, and they will host, on Sunday, the winner of Friday's match between American International College (13-6-1), the number three seed in the East, and Georgian Court University (11-8-2), the region's number six seed.
