Cheyanne Gangel Shines In Net As Women's Lacrosse Gives Number Eight LIU Post A Tough Battle
UB Will Close Out The 2019 Regular Season At Molloy On Saturday Be Making First-Ever ECC Tournament Appearance Next Tuesday
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team gave the number-eight ranked LIU Post Pioneers all they could handle on Knights Field on Tuesday afternoon, as the host Purple Knights battled the Pioneers to a 5-5 deadlock at halftime before falling 15-7 at the end of the East Coast Conference contest. UB is now 8-7, 3-4 in conference play. LIUP is now 13-3 overall and 6-1 in the ECC.
Junior goalie Cheyanne Gangel (Oakridge, N.J.) was simply outstanding for Bridgeport on Tuesday making 20 saves (one shy of her career high), as she faced a total 45 shots.
On offense, three Purple Knights had two goals apiece in junior Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.), sophomore Julia Rusico (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) and freshman Megan Kreitler (Shelton, Conn.). Danielle Kreitler (Fr., Shelton, Conn.) had UB's other goal.
Rusico also had one assist to give her a three-point afternoon, and senior Courtney Forry (Reinholds, Pa.) had a total of three assists on the day to increase her single-season school record mark to 51.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will close out the 2019 regular season at Molloy College on Saturday before making the program's first-ever East Coast Championship Tournament appearance on Tuesday, April 30 at a site to be determined.
