UB Women's Lacrosse Earns Third Win In A Row And Opens Conference Play With A 20-5 Victory Over UDC
Eleven Different Purple Knights Score Goals On Saturday
Bridgeport, Conn. - The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team opened East Coast Conference play with a 20-5 win against the visiting University of the District of Columbia Firebirds on a windy late Saturday afternoon at Knights Field. Saturday's victory is the third win in a row for the Purple Knights, who move to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. UDC falls to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the ECC.
UB dominated play racing out to a 13-3 halftime lead and outshooting the visiting Firebirds, 42-8, on the day.
Eleven different players scored in the game for Bridgeport led by freshman Megan Kreitler (Shelton, Conn.) and sophomore Julia Ruscio (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) with four goals apiece. Ruscio also added in an assist and four draw controls.
Also in double-digit goal scoring was junior Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.) with a hat trick, and sophomore Shyla Murray (Brentwood, N.Y.) found the back of the net twice.
Senior Courtney Forry (Reinholds, Pa.) had one goal and five assists on the day for the winners. Also contributing goals were freshmen Jessica Kinser (Voorhees, N.J.) Addison Plume (Glen Arm, Md.) and Amani Cayo (West Haven, Conn.). Junior Carina Mitchell (Gales Ferry, Conn.) added a goal for UB as well as picking up four ground balls. Senior Amanda Fitzpatrick (New Hampton, N.Y.) and Geovanna Ferreira (Danbury, Conn.) each added one. Ferreira also grabbed five draw controls, scooped up six ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Freshman Abbie Jones (Rising Sun, Md.) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Purple Knights earning her first collegiate win.
Up next, Bridgeport is back in action on Thursday as the team travels up Route 8 to Post University in Waterbury for a non-conference tilt. First draw is set for 3:00 pm.
