Purple Knights Pick Up First ECC Women's Lacrosse Win Of 2018 With A 17-16 Home Triumph Over Roberts Wesleyan
Courtney Forry And Barbara Orsini Each Net Five Goals For The Winners
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team came back from deficits of 5-0, 7-2 and 11-8 to rally past the visiting Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks on Sunday afternoon at Knights Field and post a wild 17-16 East Coast Conference victory. UB is now 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the ECC. RWC is now 7-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
Junior Courtney Forry (Reinholds, Pa.) and sophomore Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.) each had five goals for the victorious Purple Knights and freshman Julia Ruscio (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) added a hat trick for UB. Forry finished with seven points as she also had two assists and Orsini chipped in one helper, as did Ruscio.
Bridgeport also got two goals from junior Amanda Fitzpatrick (New Hampton, N.Y.) and single tallies from junior Ava Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) and senior Shannon Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.). Colligan also had two assists on the day.
Sophomore goalie Cheyanne Gangel (Oakridge, N.J.) made nine saves to earn the victory in net for UB.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's lacrosse team will travel to Queens (N.Y.) College On Wednesday afternoon for an ECC contest. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
