Comeback Falls Short For Women's Lacrosse As UB Downed At Home By Dominican (N.Y.), 13-10
Purple Knights Back In Action On Saturday At Nyack
Bridgeport, Conn.-Down 9-4 at halftime and looking for their first win of 2018, the University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team staged a strong comeback in the second half by fell just short, as they dropped a 13-10 non-conference decision to the Dominican (N.Y.) College Chargers at Knights Field on a chilly Monday afternoon. UB is now 0-3 on the young season, and Dominican is now 1-4 on the year.
In the second half, the Purple Knights pulled to within a one-goal deficit at 11-10 with 6:34 to play following a free position goal by freshman Shyla Murray (Brentwood, N.Y.), her third tally of the day, but DC would net the final two goals of day to make the final score, 13-10.
Bridgeport outshot Dominican, 34-28, in the contest, but Chargers' goalkeeper Cara Moran had a fine game making 16 saves, 11 of which came in the first half. UB goalie Cheyanne Gangel (Soph., Oakridge, N.J.) made eight saves on the afternoon.
Along with Murray's hat trick, UB got two goals apiece from senior Shannon Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.), sophomore Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman Julia Ruscio (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada). Senior Ava Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) added one goal for the Purple Knights, and senior Ariana Weingrad (Kings Park, N.Y.) had a pair of assists.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will look to get in the win column at Nyack College this coming Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
