Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past UDC, 17-7
Barbara Orsini And Arianna Weingrad Each Net Four Goals For The Winners
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team upped its overall season record to 8-4 and its East Coast Conference mark to 2-3 with a convincing 17-7 home win over the visiting University of the District of Columbia Firebirds on Thursday afternoon at Knights Field. The 17 goals are a single game high so far this season for the Purple Knights.
Freshman Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.) and junior Arianna Weingrad (Hicksville, N.Y.) each scored four goals on the afternoon to help lead the UB offense.
Bridgeport senior Rebecca Rieg (Long Valley, N.J.) had a hat trick for the winners, and freshman Lindsey Guadagni (Bayville, N.Y.) netted two scores to round out the multi-goal scorers for the Purple Knights.
Scoring single goals on the day for UB were Courtney Forry (So., Reinholds, Pa.), who also had three assists for a four-point game, Ava Gambardella (Jr., West Haven, Conn.), Geovanna Ferreira (So., Mato Grosso Do Sul, Brazil) and Kerry Mackinnon (Sr., Pt. Jefferson Station, N.Y.).
Seniors Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa.) and Shannon Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.) joined Forry with three assists in the contest.
In goal for Bridgeport, freshman Cheyanne Gangel (Oakridge, N.J.) worked the first half of game to earn her eighth win of 2017, as she made for saves. Classmate Rebecca Salinas (Saugerties, N.Y.) played the second half for the Purple Knights and made a total of six stops.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will travel to St. Thomas Aquinas College for an ECC game on Saturday afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
