Women's Lax Picks Up First ECC Win Of 2017 With 16-3 Triumph Over Queens (N.Y.)
Senior Shannon Colligan Sets UB Single Season Record For Assists In The Contest With Her 15th Helper of The Season
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team snapped a brief two-game losing and picked up the squad's first East Coast Conference win of 2017 with a 16-3 home victory on Wednesday afternoon over the Queens (N,Y.) College Knights. UB is now 7-3 overall this season and 1-2 in conference play, QC remains winless at 0-7 overall and 0-3 in the ECC.
Sophomore Courtney Forry (Reinholds, Pa.) led Bridgeport with four goals on the afternoon, and freshmen Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.) chipped in three scores for the winners along with one assist.
Junior Abigail Benesh (Horesheads, N.Y.) finished with a six-point day, as she had two goals and added four assists for UB.
Senior Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa.) and freshman Joanna Muniz (Queens, N.Y.) each had two goals on the day, plus Mengel added one assist for three points.
Lindsey Guadagni (Fr., Bayville, N.Y.), Arianna Weingrad (Jr., Hicksville, N.Y.) and Rebecca Rieg (Sr., Long Valley, N.J.) rounded out the goal scorers for the Purple Knights on Wednesday.
Seniors Kerry Mackinnon (Pt. Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Shannon Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.) also each had one assist, and Colligan's helper sets a new single season UB record for assists at 15 surpassing four players who each had 14.
Freshmen goalies Cheyanne Gangel (Oakridge, N.J.) and Rebecca Salinas (Saugerties, N.Y.), each saw time in net for Bridgeport on Wednesday. Gangel picked up her seventh win of the season making five save, and Salinas had two stops during her stay in the cage.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will travel to Molloy College for an ECC game on Thursday, April 13. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
