Worcester, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team held a 5-3 lead at halftime, but the host Assumption College Greyhounds stormed back to score eight consecutive goals to open the second half on their way to a 13-8 non-conference win over the Purple Knights on Thursday afternoon. UB is now 5-8 overall, and Assumption raises its overall record to 5-9.
Junior Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa.) led the UB offense with five goals, and freshman Courtney Forry (Reinholds, Pa.) chipped in the other three for the Purple Knights.
Sophomore Arianna Weingrad (Hicksville, N.Y.) added an assist for Bridgeport.
Senior goalkeeper Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) made 10 saves on the afternoon.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will close out its four-game road trip with an ECC contest at Queens (N.Y.) on Wednesday afternoon. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. in Flushing, N.Y.
