UB Earns First ECC Women's Lacrosse Win Of 2016 With 16-4 Victory At UDC
Purple Knights Now 5-7 Overall
Washington, D.C.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team snapped a three-game losing streak and picked up its first East Coast Conference win of the season with a convincing 16-4 victory at the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon. UB is now 5-7 overall and 1-5 in the ECC. UDC is now 1-9 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Freshman Courtney Forry (Reinholds, Pa.) and sophomore Abigail Benesh (Horseheads, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights' offense on Saturday, as Forry scored five goals and added one assist, and Benesh also picked up six points with four goals and two assists.
UB freshman Alexis Malvaso (Jordan, N.Y.) added three goals for the winners, and junior Kerry Mackinnon (Pt. Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and sophomore Arianna Weingrad (Hicksville, N.Y.), each chipped in one goal and two assists for Bridgeport.
Junior Rebecca Rieg (Long Valley, N.J.) rounded out the multi-point scorers for the Purple Knights, as she netted two goals on the afternoon.
Senior goalkeeper Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) made five stops to pick up the win in net for UB.
Up next for the Bridgeport women's lacrosse team is a trip to Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. On Thursday afternoon for a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
