Women's Lacrosse Picks Up Back-To-Back Wins For The First Time In 2014 With 20-8 Victory At Nyack
20 Goals Tie Program's Single Game Scoring Record
Nyack, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team picked up consecutive wins for the first time this season with a 20-8 non-conference road victory over the host Nyack College Warriors on Saturday afternoon. UB is now 3-12 overall, and with the loss, Nyack is now 3-13 overall. The 20 goals scored by the Purple Knights on Saturday also ties the program's single game record for goals scored set versus the same Nyack team and the University of Findlay in 2013.
Junior Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the Bridgeport scoring parade on Saturday with six goals to raise her team-leading season total to 38. Also netting multiple goals for the Purple Knights in the win were graduate student Meghan Doyle (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) with four goals, freshman Rebecca Reig (Long Valley, N.J.) and senior Nichole Rogers (Dallas, Texas) with three each, and junior Shealyn Scully (Huntington, N.Y.) netted two goals and added three assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) made eight saves to pick up the win in net.
UB oushot Nyack, 38-23, on the afternoon.
The Purple Knights return to East Coast Conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon, as UB continues its season-ending, four-game road trip with a game at Queens (N.Y.) College. Game time is set of 4:00 p.m.
