Women's Lacrosse Back in Win Column With 10-8 Road Victory At Post University
Purple Knights Overcome Slow Start To Snap Six-Game Losing Streak
Waterbury, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team picked up its second win of the 2014 season and snapped a six-game losing streak with a 10-8 non-conference road win over the Post University Eagles on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. The Purple Knights are now 2-12 overall, and Post slips to 4-11 on the season.
It was a tough start for UB on Tuesday, as Post scored the first three goals of the game before the Purple Knights came back with six consecutive tallies to take a 6-3 lead which they never relinquished. Bridgeport led 6-4 at the half, and both teams netted four goals in the final 30 minutes of action to make the final score 10-8.
Sophomore Allie Wiggins (Waterford, Conn.) led the UB offense at Post with three goals and one assist. Junior Alexia Costa (Providence, R.I.) chipped in two goals and one assist, and graduate student Megan Doyle (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) added two goals for the winners. Junior Shealyn Scully (Huntington, N.Y.) had three assists on the day for the Purple Knights.
Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) made five saves in net for Bridgeport on Tuesday.
The UB women's lacrosse team is next in action at Nyack College on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. for a non-conference clash.
