Women's Lacrosse Grabs Fourth Win Of The Season With 20-6 Victory Over Nyack
Victory Snaps Four-Game Skid For Purple Knights
Bridgeport, Conn.-For the second time this season, the University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team netted a single-game program record 20 goals, as the Purple Knights snapped a four-game losing streak with a 20-6, non-conference home win over the Nyack College Warriors on Monday night. With the win, UB is now 4-5 overall, and Nyack remains winless at 0-10. The four wins posted by the Purple Knights, who are in their third year at the varsity level, is a single-season high for the program surpassing last season's three victories.
Sophomore Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the UB offense on Tuesday with seven goals and she added one assists. Valela lead the team in scoring with 28 goals so far in 2013.
Classmate Katie King (Paxton, Mass.) netted five goals and dished off three assists for the winners on Monday, and freshman Allie Wiggins (Waterford, Conn.) chipped in three goals for UB.
Sophomore Emily Catalano (N. Babylon, N.Y.) netted two goals and had one assist for the Purple Knights, as the team also got single goals from Shealyn Scully (So., Huntington, N.Y.), Megan Hughes (Fr., Mastic Beach, N,Y.) and Erin Strickland (Fr., Hanover Township, N.J.).
Graduate student Marissa Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) made three saves in playing the first half of the contest to notch her fourth win of the year in net, and freshman Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) finished up with seven saves in the second half for UB.
The Bridgeport women's lacrosse team returns to East Coast Conference play on Wednesday night (April 17) at Molloy College. Game time on Long Island is set for 7:00 p.m.
