Slow Start Dooms Women's Lacrosse As Purple Knights Fall 16-11 At Roberts Wesleyan

Rochester, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team played a strong second half, but it was not enough to come back from and 8-1 halftime deficit, as the Purple Knights lost a 16-11 East Coast Conference decision versus the host Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks on Saturday afternoon.  UB is now 3-5 overall and 0-3 in the ECC.  RWC raises its overall record 6-4, and they are now 1-1 in conference play.

Bridgeport sophomore Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led her team with four goals on Saturday, and classmates Alexia Costa (Providence, R.I.) and Emily Catalano (N. Babylon, N.Y.) each netted two scores for the Purple Knights.

Freshman goalkeeper Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) made 10 saves in net for UB.

The Bridgeport women's lacrosse team is back in action a home on Wednesday evening when Mercy College comes to Knights Field for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
