Women's Lacrosse Drops Tough 7-6 ECC Decision At St. Thomas Aquinas
UB Now 3-4 Overall And 0-2 In Conference Action
Sparkill, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team lost a tough 7-6 East Coast Conference decision on Wednesday afternoon at St. Thomas Aquinas College. UB is now 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the ECC. STAC raises its record to 9-1, and the Lady Spartans are 1-1 in conference play. The Purple Knights have now lost back-to-back, one goal games.
With the contest tied 4-4 at halftime, St. Thomas Aquinas scored the first goal of the second half to take a 5-4 lead before Bridgeport's Alexia Costa (So., Providence, R.I.), who led UB with four goals on the afternoon, netted consecutive goals to give the Purple Knights a 6-5 lead with 15:58 to play.
STAC's Samantha Lowney would then score back-to-back goals to give her team a 7-6 lead which proved to be the final score. Lowney's game-winner came with 8:58 remaining to play.
Emily Catalano (So., N. Babylon, N.Y.) and Shealyn Scully (Huntington, N.Y.) scored the other UB goals on the day.
Bridgeport freshman goalkeeper Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) had a strong game for the Purple Knights recording 14 saves.
The UB women's lacrosse team is back in action on Saturday, April 6 when they will look to snap a three-game losing streak at Roberts Wesleyan College. East Coast Conference action is slated to begin in Rochester, N.Y. at 12 noon.
