Women's Lacrosse Captures Home Opener With 20-14 Win Over Findlay
Purple Knights Move To 2-0 On The Young Season
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team won its 2013 home opener on Thursday afternoon with a 20-14 victory over the University of Findlay Oilers. UB is now 2-0 on the year, and Findlay falls 0-3. The 20 goals are a single-game program high for the Purple Knights in their third year at the varsity level.
Sophomore Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the Bridgeport offense with eight goals on the day. Classmate Katie King (Paxton, Mass.) chipped in four goals, and sophomore Emily Catalano (North Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman Allie Wiggins (Waterford, Conn.) each netted three scores. Sophomore Shealyn Scully (Huntington, N.Y.) round out the Bridgeport goal scorers with two on the day. King and Scully also had three assists on the afternoon.
The Bridgeport women's lacrosse team is back in action this Sunday afternoon as they travel to Southern Connecticut State in New Haven for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
