Women's Lacrosse Rallies To Win 2013 Season Opener At Post University
Purple Knights Come Back From First Half Deficit To Grab 9-6 Victory
Waterbury, Conn.-Trailing 3-0 with 8:44 remaining in the first half, the University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team exploded for the next six goals to take a 6-3 halftime lead on its way to a 9-6 win over the host Post University Eagles in the 2013 season opener for both teams on a chilly Tuesday afternoon.
The Purple Knights got two goals apiece from sophomores Emily Catalano (N. Babylon, N.Y.), Katie King (Paxton, Mass.) and Gabrielle Valela (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) plus freshman Allie Wiggins (Waterford, Conn.) and single tally from sophomore Shealyn Scully (Huntington, N.Y.).
Graduate student Marissa Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) made five saves to record the win in net for UB.
The Bridgeport women's lacrosse team returns to action on Thursday afternoon (March 7) when the Purple Knights take on the University of Findlay at 4:00 p.m. in the Purple Knights' 2013 home opener at Knights Field.
