Women's Lacrosse Suffers First Loss Of 2012
Purple Knights Fall To Wilmington (Del.), 12-3
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the 2012 season as the Purple Knights dropped a non-conference home decision to the Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats by a 12-3 score. The Purple Knights are now 2-1 on the season, and Wilmington raises its overall mark to 3-1.
After scoring the first goal of the day 4:51 into play, UB saw Wilmington score the next eight tallies to head into halftime with an 8-1 lead which they never relinquished.
Freshman Emily Catalano (N. Babylon, N.Y.) scored all three Bridgeport goals on Friday. Freshmen Katie King (Paxton, Mass.) and Shealyn Scully (Huntington, N.Y.) each had an assist for the Purple Knights.
Senior Natasha Mitchell (Willimantic, Conn.) made her first career start in goal for Bridgeport, and she recorded eight saves.
Kory Webster netted three goals and Liz Case had three assists to help lead Wilmington to the victory.
The Bridgeport women's lacrosse team is back in action on April 1 when they host Brookdale Community College in a contest that does not count in the team's overall record as Brookdale is a two-year school. The Purple Knights next varsity action is on Friday, April 6 when they host SUNY Maritime at 1:00 p.m.
