Bridgeport Gymnastics Competes In Inaugural Gymnastics East Conference Championship Meet
Kiana Session And Kathryn Doran Shine For The Purple Knights In Saturday's Opening Session Of Action
Providence, R.I.-The University of Bridgeport gymnastics team wrapped up the 2002 team portion of its schedule on Saturday competing in session one of the inaugural Gymnastics East Conference Championship Meet hosted by Brown University. UB took fourth place in the four-team session with a total score of 183.925. Southern Connecticut State took the top spot in Saturday's first session with a team score of 194.200, and they were followed by Cornell at 194.175 and William & Mary at 192.675.
In the four events, the Purple Knights scored 47.825 on the balance beam, 46.750 on the vault, 46.300 in the floor exercise and 43.050 on the bars.
Freshman Kiana Session (Chandler, Az.) was outstanding on Saturday tying for first place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.850 and taking the top sport in the first session all-around with a total of 38.700 in the four events.
Senior Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) was the top Bridgeport finisher on the beam tying for third place with a score of 9.800 and also on the bars, as she posted a 9.825 placing her in the fourth spot.
Freshman Olivia Imbarlina (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was the team's top finisher in Saturday's vault tying for eighth place with a score of 9.725, a career-best score.
