Women's Gymnastics Takes Second Place At Brown Tri-Meet
Purple Knights Set To Host 2019 ECAC Division II Championship Meet Next Saturday
Providence, R.I.-Competing in their second meet in two days, the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team finished second in a three-team meet hosted by Brown University on Sunday afternoon, as the Purple Knights posted a team score of 194.825 taking second behind Temple's total of 195.075 and ahead of the host Bears at 194.075
On Sunday, the Purple Knights scored 49.100 in the floor exercise, 48.875 on the vault, 48.800 on the bars and 48.050 on the balance.
Freshman Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.) had a standout afternoon on Sunday winning two individual events with career-best scores taking first on the vault (9.900) and on the balance beam (9.875). Roland also took first place in Sunday's all-around totaling 39.250, another career-high.
Freshman Varvara Diakakis (Dix Hills, N.Y.) took second behind Roland on the vault with a career-best 9.800.
On the bars, sophomore Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) was the top UB finisher taking second place with a 9.825, and senior Thomara Powell-Brown (Rocky Hill, Conn.) tied for third place with a 9.800.
In the floor exercise, freshman Crystal Gwinn (New Port Richey, Fla.) tied for first place with a career-high 9.900, and senior Kelly Aycock (Locust Grove, Ga.) tied for fourth at 9.850.
Up next, the Purple Knights will be looking for the eleventh straight and 22nd all-time ECAC Division II Championship on Saturday when UB's hosts Southern Connecticut State and West Chester in the Wheeler Recreation Center. Meet time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
