Women's Gymnastics Opens Busy Weekend Of Action With Strong Second Place Finish At Rutgers
UB Right Back In Action At Home On Saturday With Dual Meet Versus Cornell At 5:00 p.m.
Piscataway, N. J.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team finished second in a four-team meet hosted by Rutgers University on Friday evening, as the host Scarlet Knights took first with a team score of 194.425 followed by the Purple Knights in second at 194.125, Towson in third with a 192.800 and Centenary (La.) College in fourth with a total of 192.000.
As a team, Bridgeport won the floor exercise with a score of 49.000, and the team posted a 48.750 on the bars, a 48.450 on the vault and a 47.925 on the balance beam.
In the floor exercise, junior Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) tied for third with a score of 9.850, and freshmen Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.) and Crystal Gwinn (New Port Richey, Fla.) tied for fifth place at 9.800.
On the balance beam, Reimers grabbed second place with a 9.800 and Roland was fourth scoring a 9.725.
In Friday's all-around competition, Julianna Roland took second place with a total score of 38.900 in the four events.
On the bars, graduate student Kelli Tereshko (Madison, Indiana) led the way for UB tying for second place with a 9.825.
On the vault, freshman Varvara Diakakis (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and sophomore Gabrielle Kistner (Raleigh, N.C.) were the highest Bridgeport finishers tying for seventh place with scores of 9.725.
Up next, the Purple Knights will wrap up a busy weekend of gymnastics with a home dual meet on Saturday versus Cornell. Action will begin in the Wheeler Recreation Center at 5:00 p.m.
