UB Women's Gymnastics Takes Second Place At Penn Quad Meet
Team Post A Total Score Of 104.775 On Sunday In The City Of Brotherly Love
Philadelphia, Pa.-The UB women's gymnastics team took second place at the University of Pennsylvania's Pink Quad Meet to help raise cancer awareness and battle the disease on Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia. The Purple Knights posted a team score of 194.775 in the City of Brotherly Love to finish second behind West Virginia University, as the Mountaineers totaled 195.250. Penn took third place with a score of 193.825, and Temple took fourth with a total of 193.575.
As a team, the Purple Knights won the bars on Sunday with a score of 48.950, and Bridgeport posted totals of 48.800 in the floor exercise, 48.700 on the balance beam and 48.325 on the vault.
On the bars, sophomore Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) grabbed first place on the day with an impressive score of 9.990, and senior Thomara Powell-Brown (Rocky Hill, Conn.) tied for second with a season-best score of 9.850.
On the vault, freshman Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.), who won Sunday's with a score of 38.950 in the four events, tied for first place with a score of 9.750, and classmate Varvara Diakakis (Dix Hills, N.Y.) tied for fourth place at 9.725.
On the balance beam, junior Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) was the top UB finisher tying for third place with a 9.800, and she also tied second place in the floor exercise 9.875. Freshman Crystal Gwinn (New Port Richey, Fla.) tied for fourth on the floor with a 9.850.
After a week off, the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team will return to action on Friday evening, February 22 when they return to Philadelphia to take part in the Ken Anderson Invitational hosted by Temple University along with Ursinus College. Meet time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
