Two Purple Knights Receive Weekly ECAC Women's Gymnastics Awards
Junior Maya Reimers And Senior Kelly Aycock Recognized For Their Outstanding Performances
Danbury, Conn.-Two University of Bridgeport gymnasts have been recognized by the ECAC with weekly conference Division II awards for their fine performances in the Purple Knights' season-opening meets over the last two weeks. UB junior Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) has been selected as the ECAC Division II Gymnast of the Week, and senior Kelly Aycock (Locust Grove, Ga.) earned this week's Coaches Choice honor.
Reimers opened her junior season off with a couple of top-notch performances. In her first meet of the year at Central Michigan, she competed on both the beam and floor exercise. She scored a 9.65 on beam and a 9.85 for her floor routine. In her second meet, a home quad competition with Yale, Rutgers and Southern Connecticut State, she would compete at both events again while adding in at vault. The second meet consisted of a 9.6 at vault, 9.75 on the beam and a 9.8 floor routine.
Aycock, a team captain for the Purple Knights, made her return in the season opener at CMU after recovering from an injury. She started her year off strong with an uneven bars score of 9.625 and a floor score of 9.825. The second meet of the season at home on Saturday night was just as good for the senior as she scored a 9.725 on the uneven bars and a 9.675 for her floor routine.
This week, the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team travels to the University of New Hampshire for a quad meet on Friday night.
