UB Women's Gymnastics Opens Home Season With Second Place Finish In Competitive Quad Meet
Purple Knights Post A Team Scored Of 193.750 To Take Second Behind Yale's 193.775
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team opened its 2018 home schedule on Saturday evening in the Wheeler Recreation Center with a quad meet against Yale, Rutgers and Southern Connecticut State, and the Purple Knights improved their team score from their season-opening meet at Central Michigan (192.575), as they finished second with a total of 193.750. Saturday was a hotly-contested competition, as Yale took first with a score of 193.775, followed by the Purple Knights in second, Rutgers in third with a 193.175 and Southern Connecticut State in fourth posting a 190.275.
On Saturday, the Purple Knights posted a 48.600 on the vault, a 48.575 in the floor exercise, a 48.550 on the bars and a 48.250 on the beam.
In the floor exercise, junior Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) took first place on the evening with a score of 9.800, and freshman Crystal Gwinn (New Port Richey, Fla.) tied for second place with a score of 9.750.
Reimers was the team'stop finisher on the balance taking fourth place with a score of 9.750
On the vault, Gwinn and sophomore Gabrielle Kistner (Raleigh, N.C.) tied for second place with a score of 9.775
Senior Thomara Powell-Brown tied for first place on the bars with a score of 9.775, and sophomore Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) tied for third place with 9.750.
Freshman Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.) finished second in Saturday's all-around with a total of 38.625 in the four events scoring a 9.740 on the vault, 9.650 on the bars, a 9.70 on the beam and a 9.525 in the floor exercise.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team will travel to the University of New Hampshire on Friday night for a quad meet featuring the host Wildcats, Pittsburgh and Temple. Action will begin at 7:00 p.m.
