Women's Gymnastics Opens 2019 Season Against Strong Competition At Central Michigan Quad Meet
UB Takes Fourth Place Behind Host Central Michigan, Arizona And Illinois
Mt. Pleasant, Mich.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team opened its 2019 season by taking fourth place in a quad meet against nationally-ranked competition hosted by Central Michigan University on Sunday afternoon. The Purple Knights recorded a team score of 192.575 on the day, posting 48.950 in the floor exercise, 48.425 on the vault, 48.225 on the bars and 46.975 on the balance beam.
In the floor exercise, junior Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) tied for first place on the day with a score of 9.850, and senior Kelly Aycock (Locust Grove, Ga.) tied for third place with a score of 9.825.
On the vault, sophomore Gabrielle Kistner (Raleigh, N.C.) took seventh place with a score of 9.750.
Reimers was also the team's highest finisher on the balance beam turning in a score of 9.650, and on the bars, Kathryn Doran (SO., Oakville, Ontario, Canada), Thomara Powell-Brown (Sr., Rocky Hill, Conn.) plus Kelli Tereshko (Grad. Student, Madison, Indiana) topped the Purple Knights posting scores of 9.675.
Freshman Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.) was the only Bridgeport gymnast to compete in all four events, and she compiled a score of 37.475 to finish fourth in Sunday's all-around.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team will host its first home meet of 2019 when Rutgers, Yale and Southern Connecticut State come to the Wheeler Recreation Center this coming Saturday, January 12. Action is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
