UB Women's Gymnastics Stars In The Classroom
Purple Knights Earn Team Academic Accolades And 15 Individual Academic Awards From The Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association
Bridgeport, Conn. -The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team is one of 76 programs across the nation to receive a 2017-18 Scholastic All-America Award along with several individual academic awards. These awards were given out by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA). As a team, the Purple Knights ranked 23rd out of the 76 schools at all NCAA levels with an impressive overall team grade point average of 3.5436.
To qualify for individual academic awards, gymnasts must earn a minimum GPA of 3.50 or better. This year the WCGA recognized 760 student-athletes who earned the Scholastic All-America Honors. Out of the 760 student-athletes UB had 15 student-athletes recognized: freshman Alexis Richardson (Coram, N.Y.), freshman Amanda Wygonik (Wading River, N.Y.), senior Caylee Ford (Buffalo, N.Y.), junior Delaney Cahill (Medford Lakes, N.J.), freshman Gabrielle Kistner (Raleigh, N.C.), freshman Kathryn Doran (Oakville, ON, Canada), senior Kelli Tereshko (Madison, Indiana), junior Kelly Aycock (Locust Grove, Ga.), junior Maritza Futch (Atlanta, Ga.), freshman Molly Grau (Jackson, N.J.), freshman Nicole Javinett (Marlboro, N.Y.), sophomore Nina Whittaker (Salem, N.H.), freshman Regan Dillon (Delano, Minn.), sophomore Taylor Jangda (Grand Rapids, Mich.), and junior Thomara Powell-Brown (Rocky Hill, Conn.).
