UB Freshman Kathryn Doran And Lauren Ramirez Pick Up Weekly ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Awards
Duo Helped The Purple Knights Post A Season-Best Team Score Of 194.800 In Win At Brown University
Danbury, Conn.-A pair of University of Bridgeport freshmen women's gymnasts have been recognized by the ECAC with weekly conference Division II awards for their fine performance at Brown University last Sunday afternoon. UB freshman Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) has been chosen the ECAC Division II Gymnast of the Week for the second time this season, and classmate Lauren Ramirez (Gilbert, Ariz.) has been selected as the ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Rookie of the Week.
Doran had a stellar meet in Providence on Sunday posting several career best scores. Her new career marks came on her bars routine with a 9.900 and her floor routine with a 9.725. She also scored a 9.55 on vault and a 9.800 for her beam routine. In total she scored 38.975 for her all-around score to take first in that competition. All her scores counted toward the Purple Knights new season-high team mark of 194.800.
Ramirez anchored the beam for the Purple Knights in Sunday's Brown quad meet. After a fall from a teammate in the rotation, Ramirez stepped up and posted a score of 9.75 to help aid the team in their victory over Brown, Southern Connecticut and Brockport. Earlier this season, Lauren earned ECAC Division II Specialist of the Week honors.
This week, the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team is busy, as they are scheduled to host the University of New Hampshire on Thursday night and travel to the University of Maryland on Sunday.
