Women's Gymnastics Takes Second Place At TWU Meet
Team Shows Well In The Lone Star State
Denton, Texas- The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team traveled to Denton, Texas and the campus of Texas Women's University, site of the 2018 USA Gymnastics Colligate National Championship meet in April on Sunday afternoon, and the Purple Knights took second place in a four team meet with a total score of 194.275 just behind the host Pioneers who finished the day at 194.675. SE Missouri State took third place with a score of 193.675, and Centenary of Louisiana was fourth at 191.825.
As a team on Sunday, UB posted a 48.825 on the bars, a 48.350 on the beam, a 48.775 in the floor exercise and a 48.325 on the vault.
Senior Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.) won Sunday's all-around title with a score of 38.875 in the four events, and Campbell was the Purple Knights' top finisher on the vault with a score of 9.725 which place her in a tie for sixth.
On the bars, senior Kelli Tereshko (Madison, Indiana) and junior Maritza Futch (Atlanta, Ga.) were the top UB finishers as they were part of a three-way tie for fourth place at 9.800.
Sophomore Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) was UB's best finishers in the floor exercise tying for second place with a score of 9.850, and on the beam, where she was a member of the three-way tie for third place with a score of 9.800.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team returns to Brown University next Sunday for a meet that will also feature Southern Connecticut State and Brockport.
