UB Gymnastics Places Second in Quad Meet At Penn
Temple Owls Edge Purple Knights For the Top Spot In The Four-Team Event, 194.700 to 194.225.
Philadelphia, Pa.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team narrowly missed taking first place from the Temple University Owls by a margin of 0.475 points at the University of Pennsylvania Senior Day Meet on Sunday afternoon. Temple totaled 194.700 to the Purple Knights' score of 194.225. The host, Penn, followed in third with a score of 193.725, and Ursinus came in fourth with a score of 186.900.
As a team at the historic Palestra, Bridgeport posted a season-high 49.150 in the floor exercise, a 48.075 on the vault, a 48.750 on the bars and a 48.250 on the beam.
Sophomore Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) was a top finisher for Bridgeport in two individual events on Sunday afternoon. Reimers posted a 9.925 in the floor exercise (tied for first place in the event), a 9.725 on the beam, and a 9.475 on the vault. She was followed by junior Kelly Aycock (Locust Grove, Ga.) who scored a 9.875 (tied for fourth place) in the floor exercise. Aycock also earned a score of 9.700 on the uneven bars.
UB placed first and second on the uneven bars as senior Kelli Tereshko (Madison, Indiana) took first place with a score of 9.800 while junior Maritza Futch (Atlanta, Ga.) and freshmen Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) tied for second with a score of 9.775. Doran finished second in Sunday's all-around with a four-event total of 38.675.
Freshman Lauren Ramirez (Gilbert, Ariz.) was the team's top finisher on the balance beam with a score of 9.825, which was good for first place in the event.
On the vault, senior Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.) tied for third in the event with a score of 9.750. Campbell also placed third in the all-around with a score of 38.500 in the four individual events.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's gymnastics team will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for the Ken Anderson Invitational held by Temple University on Saturday starting at 1:00 pm. Bridgeport and Temple will be joined by West Chester and Ursinus in the competition.
