Women's Gymnastics Takes Second Place At Yale's Don Tonry Invitational
Host Bulldogs Edge Purple Knights For the Top Spot In The Four-Team Event, 194.275 to 194.225
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team was just edged out by the host Yale University Bulldogs for the top spot in the team standings at Saturday's Don Tonry Invitational, as Yale totaled 194.275 to the Purple Knights 194.225. Southern Connecticut State finished in third with a team total of 191.825, and Springfield College took fourth at 186.000.
As a team at Yale, UB posted a season-high 48.9000 on the bars, a 48.350 on the beam, a 48.525 in the floor exercise and a 48.450 on the vault.
Sophomore Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) was the top Bridgeport finisher is two individual events posting a 9.825 in the floor exercise (first place in the event) and tying with senior Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.) on the vault at 9.725. Campbell finished second in Saturday's all-around with a four-event total of 38.925.
Senior Kelli Tereshko (Madison, Indiana) was the team's top finisher on the bars with a score of 9.850 which was good for first place in the event.
Freshmen Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) were the Purple Knights' top finisher on the balance beam at 9.825.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's gymnastics team will close out a busy weekend of action by traveling to Philadelphia, Pa. and the University of Pennsylvania for a quad meet on Sunday that begins at 1:00 p.m. The Purple Knights and Quakers will be joined by Temple and Ursinus at tomorrow's competition.
