UB Gymnastics Continues Strong Start To 2018 Season By Posting A Season-High Score Of 194.350 To Win Brown Tri-Meet
Purple Knights Top Host Bears And Rhode Island College To Capture Super Bowl Sunday Meet
Providence, R.I-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team continued its strong start to the 2018 season on Super Bowl Sunday afternoon at Brown University, as the Purple Knights took first place in a tri-meet with a season-best team score of 194.350. The host Bears took second place with a score of 190.900, and Rhode Island College was third with a total of 177.100.
As a team on Sunday, UB posted a 48.750 on the bars, a 48.475 on the beam, a 48.725 in the floor exercise and a 48.400 on the vault.
Sophomore Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) won two events for the Purple Knights on Sunday, as she tied for first on the vault with teammates Gabrielle Kistner (Fr., Raleigh, N.C.) and Kelsey Campbell (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) with scores of 9.700 and captured first in the floor exercise with a score of 9.850.
UB went one-two-three-four in the floor exercise as sophomore Nina Whittaker (Salem, N.H.) took second with a career-high score of 9.775, Kistner was third with a score of 9.750 and Campbell and junior Kelly Aycock (Locust Grove, Ga.) tied for fourth with a score of 9.675.
On the bars, senior Kelli Tereshko (Madison, Indiana) was the top finisher for Bridgeport in second place with a score of 9.800, and Campbell was third with a score of 9.775.
On the balance beam, freshmen Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) and Lauren Ramirez (Gilbert, Ariz.) tied for second place at 9.725, and Kelsey Campbell, who won Sunday's all-around with a score of 38.850 in the four individual events, tied for fourth with a score of 9.700.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team will have a busy weekend of action beginning next Saturday at Yale's Don Tonry Invitational before the Purple Knights compete in a quad meet at Penn on Sunday.
