Floor Competitors Shine For Purple Knights In USAG Individual Event Finals
UB Gymnasts Wrap Up Successful 2017 Season
Seattle, Wash.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team wrapped up its 2017 season on Sunday afternoon with the Individual Event Finals at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships hosted by Seattle Pacific University.
The Purple Knights starred in the floor exercise, as senior Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) tied for first place with a score of 9.900. Classmate Kimberly Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) took third in the floor exercise with a score of 9.875, and freshman Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) tied for fourth with a score of 9.825.
On the vault, Stewart finished in third place with a score of 9.8625, and freshman Nina Whittaker (Salem, N.H.) tied for eighth place with a score of 9.750.
On the bars, sophomore Thomara Powell-Brown (Rocky Hill, Conn.) tied for second place with a score of 9.850, and sophomore Maritza Futch (Atlanta, Ga.) with a score of 9.750 finished in eleventh place and classmate Kelly Aycock (Locust Grove, Ga) tied for thirteenth place at 9.700.
On the beam, Reimers posted a 9.775 score to tie for tenth place, and junior Carol Chiles (Fairfield, Calif.) took thirteenth place with a score of 9.575.
In the all-around competition, Maya Reimers finished in third place with a total of 39.025 in the four events, and junior Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.) was fourth with a total of 39.000. The all-around scores came for the team semifinal event on Friday.
