Purple Knights Advance To 2017 USA Gymnastics Team Finals On Saturday
UB Posts A Season-Best Score Of 195.575 To Win Friday's First Semifinal
Seattle, Wash.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team cruised into Saturday's USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championship Team Finals by posting a 2017 season best score of 195.575 in Friday's first of two USAG Collegiate Team Semifinals. Cornell finished second to the Purple Knights with a team total of 194.200 and will join the Purple Knights, along with two other teams from Friday's second semifinal, in Saturday's Team Final that will begin at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The 2017 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championship Meet is being hosted by Seattle Pacific University.
As a team on Friday, UB posted scored of 48.625 on the bars, 48.950 on the balance beam, 49.300 in the floor exercise and 48.700 on the vault.
Senior Kimberly Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) had a strong Friday in helping her team reach the 2017 USAG Team Finals, as she was UB's top finisher on the vault with a score of 9.825, and she posted a career high score of 9.925 to lead the team in the floor exercise.
Sophomore Thomara Powell-Brown (Rocky Hill, Conn.) earned top honors for the Purple Knights on Friday on the bars with a score of 9.800, and freshman Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) led the team on the balance beam tying her career high mark with a score of 9.990. Reimers was also the team's top all-around competitor compiling a total score of 39.025 in Friday's four events.
