Purple Knights Take Top Spot At Four-Team Penn Women's Gymnastics Meet On Super Sunday
UB Totals 194.000 As A Team To Best NC State, Cornell And Penn
Philadelphia, Pa.-For the second straight weekend, the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team took first place in back-to-back meets, as on Super Bowl Sunday, the Purple Knights grabbed the top spot in a four-team competition hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. The Purple Knights won a hard-fought meet posting a team score of 194.000 to edge second place North Carolina State, as the Wolfpack scored 193.725 as a team. Cornell took third place with a total of 193.575, and the host Penn Quakers were fourth with a score of 190.950.
As a team, UB scored 48.100 on the vault, 48.200 on the bars, 48.875 in the floor exercise and 48.825 on the balance beam.
Senior Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) continued to shine in the early going of the 2017 season by winning the balance beam event on Sunday with a score of 9.875, and tying for first place on the floor exercise with teammate, freshman Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y), as they both scored 9.850.
Reimers tied for second on the beam behind Comport with teammate, junior Carol Chiles (Fairfield, Calif.), as they both posted scores of 9.800.
In the floor exercise, senior Randi Cutolo (S. Jordan, Utah) took third place to make it a Bridgeport clean sweep of the top spots in the event with a score of 9.825.
On the vault, seniors Kimberly Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) and Hope Tralli (Croton-On-Hudson, N.Y.) were the top finishers for the Purple Knights, as they tied for third place with scores of 9.750.
Senior Christine Liautaud (Cary, Illinois) was the team's top finisher on the bars on Sunday scoring a 9.825, which place her in a tie for fourth place.
Junior Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.) placed fourth in the All-Around on Sunday, as she scored a total of 37.100 in the four events.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team will travel to Cornell University of a quad-meet on Saturday, February 11 at 1:00 p.m.
