Purple Knights Take First Place At Yale's Don Tonry Invitational To Wrap Up Busy Weekend Of Gymnastics Action
Purple Knights Win All Four Team Events Plus Have Top Individual Finisher In Each Event Plus Take Home The All-Around Crown
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team wrapped up a busy 24 hours of action by taking first place at the four-team Yale University Don Tonry Bulldog Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Purple Knights won the event with a team score of 193.175. Yale took second place with a score 191.275, and Southern Connecticut State was third with a score of 184.950 followed by Rhode Island College in fourth place with 172.800 points.
In the four team events on UB scored 47.975 on the bars, 47.8000 on the vault, 48.625 in the floor exercise and 48.775 on the balance beam. Bridgeport also had the top individual finisher in each event on Saturday to go along with winning all four team events.
Senior Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) took first place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.900. Teammates senior Randi Cutolo (South Jordan, Utah) and freshman Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y) tied for second place with scores of 9.825.
Reimers had a fine meet on Saturday, as she won the balance beam with a score of 9.990 and finished second in the all-around competition with a total score of 38.525.
Comport took second on the beam with a score of 9.825, and junior Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.), who won the all-around competition for the second straight day, was third on the beam with a 9.800. Campbell's all-around total was 38.600 for the four events.
On the vault, senior Kimberly Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) took first place with a score of 9.750, and Campbell was second with a 9.675.
Sophomore Maritza Futch (Atlanta, Ga.) took first place for the Purple Knights on the bars with a score of 9.725.
The UB women's gymnastics team will have another busy weekend of action next Friday and Saturday, as the Purple Knights are in action at Southern Connecticut State for a dual meet on Saturday, February 4 at 1:00 p.m. and then travel to Penn the following day for a meet that will included North Carolina State and will also begin at 1:00 p.m.
