Purple Knights Advance To Saturday Night's USAG Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Team Finals
Team Post A Season-High Team Score of 195.550 On Friday
St. Charles, Mo.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team stormed into the 2016 Team Finals of the USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate National Championship Meet on Friday afternoon by posted a season-best team score of 195.550 to advance to Saturday night's team final along with Seattle Pacific University who took second place out of the four teams in the first semifinal with a score of 194.700. Cornell was third with a score of 193.100 and Air Force finished fourth with a total of 191.600. UB and SPU will be joined in the finals by two of four teams competing in Saturday's other seminal featuring last year's national champions and meet host, Lindenwood University, Texas Women's University, Yale and Brown. The Purple Knights will be looking for their seventh USAG National Collegiate Team crown in the last eight years.
UB totaled 48.550 on the vault, 48.750 on the bars, 48.825 on the balance beam and 49.425 in the floor exercise for its total score of 195.550.
In individual events in Friday's first semifinal, UB's Maritza Futch (Fr., Atlanta, Ga.) won the bars with a score of 9.850, and junior Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) tied for first on the beam (9.850) won the floor exercise (9.950).
Saturday's USAG Team Finals will begin at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
