Women's Gymnastics Claims Eighth Consecutive ECAC Division II Title
Team Wins Event With Season-High Score Of 195.125
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team took home its eighth straight ECAC Division II title on Saturday afternoon at home, as the Purple Knights posted a 2016 team-high score of 195.125 to top West Chester University and Southern Connecticut State University. Saturday's ECAC title is also number 19 in the program's history. West Chester took second place on Saturday with a team score of 192.325 and SCSU was third with a total of 191.300.
The Purple Knights won all four events on Saturday scoring 48.400 on the vault, 48.950 on the bars, 48.475 on the beam and 49.300 in the floor exercise.
On the vault, UB juniors Hope Tralli (Croton-On-Hudson, N.Y.) and Kimberly Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) tied for first place with scored of 9.725 and freshman Delaney Cahill (Medford Lakes, N.J.) took third place with a score of 9.675.
On the bars, the Purple Knights went one-two-three, as junior Christine Liautaud (Cary, Ill.) took first place with a score of 9.900, freshman Maritza Futch (Atlanta, Ga.) took second place at 9.825 and sophomore Brielle Wilchuck (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) tied for third with a score of 9.800.
Bridgeport junior Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) won the balance beam with a score of 9.825, and the Purple Knights swept the top spots in the floor exercise, as Comport and classmate Randi Cutolo (S. Jordan, Utah) tied for first at an impressive 9.900 and junior Ajiea Hargrave (Allentown, Pa.) grabbed third place with a score of 9.850.
Sophomore Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.) took third in Saturday's all-around competition with a total 38.125 for the four events.
UB head coach Byron Knox was named the 2016 ECAC Division II Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the meet, and Chritine Liautaud was selected the 2016 ECAC Division II Specialist of the Year plus Delaney Cahill earned 2016 ECAC Division II Rookie of the Year honors.
