Purple Knights Post Season-High Score Of 195.100 To Top Yale In Senior Night Women's Gymnastics Meet
Team Back In Action At Penn On Saturday
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team posted a 2016 season-high team score on Thursday night, as the Purple Knights celebrated Senior Night with a 195.100-193.700 dual meet win over the visiting Yale University Bulldogs. UB scored 48.425 on the vault, 48.875 on the bars, 48.800 on the balance beam and an impressive 49.050 in the floor exercise.
In the floor exercise, Bridgeport finished one-two-three with junior Ajiea Hargrave (Allentown, Pa.) taking the top spot with a score of 9.875, classmate Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) was second at 9.850 and freshman Brittany Capozzi (Derry, N.H.) tied for third at 9.800.
On the vault, UB junior Hope Tralli (Croton-On-Hudson, N.Y.) won the event with a score of 9.775, and Hargrave took second with a score of 9.725.
On the balance beam, Capozzi took third with a score of 9.800 and sophomore Carol Chiles (Fairfield, Calif.) tied for fourth place at 9.775.
On the bars, freshman Maritza Futch (Atlanta, Ga.) took second for UB with a score of 9.825, and teammates, sophomores Brielle Wilchuck (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) and Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.) tied for third at 9.800.
Campbell would win Thursday's all-around with a score of 38.825 for the four events.
After the completion of the meet, the Purple Knights honored their three seniors Linda Brostowski, Margaret Cortese and Alexa Fredrick.
The UB women's gymnastics team returns to action on Saturday afternoon at Penn for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
